Fishing

Only amateur fishing with permits of the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Lithuania is allowed in Žemaitija National Park.The lakes of Plateliai, Beržoras, Žiedelis, Ilgis, the pond of Rotinėnai are the most abounding with fish. The following types of fish prevail: redeye, roach, pike, perch, vendace. After ichtiological reasearch of the lakes, it was stated that 14 types of fish breed in the lake of Plateliai: pike, burbot, bream, roach, tench, bleak, perch, redeye, eel, vendace, Plateliai lavaret, crucian carp and ruff, in the lake of Ilgis – 11 types of fish: pike, bream, roach, tench, bleak, perch, redeye, eel, carp and ruff. The following types of fish prevail in the lake of Beržotas: perch, roach, bream, pike, redeye, bleak. In the pond of Rotinėnai there are bleak,s tenches, breams, etc.

The pensioners and children under 16 years old  might not apply for the amateur fishing permission unless they don’t have the ID to prove their age.

Tariffs for the amateur fishing permits:

Annually (valid for 12 months) – 14 €;

Monthly (valid 1 month) – 5 €;

For 2 days (valid 2 days) – 1,40 €.

It is prohibited to fish in the territory of ŽNP in the lakes of Endriuškaičiai, Iešnalis, Aklaežeris (reservation area), the pond of Pakastuva (wetland reservation).

WARNING: It is prohibited to fish European whitefish (Coregonus lavaretus) as it is preserved as rare endemic relict fish.
